Book Buzz: Truevine by Beth Macy
Truevine by Beth Macy
George and Willie Muse were young African American boys with albinism, living in Truevine, Virginia when they were coerced by a white man with candy and forced to join the circus as a sideshow act. Their mother spent 28 years trying to get them back. In the span of their time in the circus, they travelled the world and performed for royalty, but their acts were based on the color of their skin and racist stereotypes.
Copies of the book will be available at the Main Information desk one month before the discussion.
