'Tis a Gift to be Simple: Aaron Copland in Shaker Heights
Composer Aaron Copland, who used the Shaker religious dance song "Simple Gifts" in his award-winning 1944 ballet score for Appalachian Spring, visited Shaker Heights in 1974 where he met several Shakers.
Join Shaker Heights Public Library and the Shaker Historical Society to hear musicologist Roger Lee Hall discuss this momentous encounter as well as the origins and adaptations of “Simple Gifts.”
