Out of the Closet and Into Comics with Valentino Zullo

Comics have long preserved LGBTQ stories, once dismissed as childish, now forming a vital queer archive. This lecture explores queer comics history, from underground “comix” to heroes like Batwoman and Iceman. Valentino Zullo, Assistant Professor at Ursuline College, co-directs the Rust Belt Humanities Lab and co-leads Cleveland Public Library’s Get Graphic program. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics and serves on the Siegel & Shuster Society board.
