History of the Civil Rights Movement to Desegregate Public Schools in Cleveland
In April 1964, Donna McIntyre, a 10th grader at John Adams High School, joined 95% of the Black students across the district to protest against school segregation. Now, Dr. Donna McIntyre Whyte will share the circumstances that led to the boycott and the history of community activism for racial equality and social justice in public schools. Dr. Whyte teaches history, religion, and Africana Studies at Cleveland State University. After Dr. Whyte’s talk, stay for the opening reception of the African American Doll & Quilt Society display.
