As a child Orlean, a Shaker Heights native, frequented our own Bertram Woods Branch Library. Known for her entertaining narrative non-fiction, in The Library Book Orlean dives deep into the oddball characters, the forensic science, and the strange-but-true history behind the infamous and devastating 1986 fire in the iconic art deco main building of the Los Angeles Public Library, weaving together a mesmerizing tale that is part true-crime and part love letter to libraries.
We will meet for this program at the Academy Tavern on 12800 Larchmere Blvd. Copies of the book and audiobook are available at the Main Library and on Overdrive or Libby.
